Interfacing and automating lab equipments the smart way
What is MediLink?
Medilink is the industry leader for data acquisition solutions
for all types of interfaceable medical laboratory instruments and
analyzers. Historically, laboratories have had their analysts
manually enter the data into the LIS or LIMS application, but this
creates a dilemma. On top of being a poor use of people’s time,
there are delays in getting the data entered into the LIS and,
inevitably, transcription errors nullifying the usefulness of the
data.
We are one of the first Malaysian lab interface application that is
designed to work with most of the instruments. Today, nearly all
popular lab instruments and analyzers are capable of being
interfaced to an LIS or any other third party application.
Benefits
► Improved data flow and elimination of transcription errors
means faster and more accurate reporting of results
► Using one standard interface for the entire lab reduces,
implementation, training and maintenance costs
Types of instrument interfaces
Medilink supports two types of instrument interfaces:
► Uni-directional interfaces are the simplest form of data
transfer, typically defined as gathering information that is being
pushed over from the instrument and reporting to LIS. This type of
interface usually requires additional information to be keyed in by
lab personnel (such as the sample identifiers, sample location and
etc). The information will be entered at the instrument or interface
level, before committing the results to LIMS. Uni-directional
interfaces are the easiest to implement.
► A bi-directional interface involves true two-way communication
between the analyzer and interface/host. These types of interfaces
are more complicated as they involve the movement of information
back and forth between the LIMS interface and the instrument. The
host downloads specimen ID and test order information; the analyzer
uploads specimen ID and test result information. Support of
bi-directional interface capability is most generally found on
random access testing instruments, which can perform a different
array of tests on each successive specimen. Bi-directional
interfaces reduce the analyst’s workload by eliminating the need to
manually create sample lists or sequences. One of the bidirectional
derivatives that are supported by Medilink is Host Query
Interfacing.
